Cirrus No. 33, N4173C Currently Owned By:
STATUS: In Service LOCATION: Miami Gliderport, Miami, FL No. 33 may well be the only Open Cirrus in the US still in service by its original importers. Flown by Burt and his father Fritz, it has flown in the US Nationals in Marfa, Texas in 1969. It also flew in several other Nationals and Regionals through the mid-seventies. It’s never been damaged, as it rarely landed off-field because Fritz Compton usually completed all the tasks! Longest distance flown was 325 miles on one of the last ever "open distance" days from Marfa to Haskell, Texas at the 1969 Nationals. As of 1997, this ship’s average flight has a duration
just one minute short of three hours! It is highly likely that this is
a record, not only for Cirruses, but for gliders!
