Between 1967 and 1977, Schempp-Hirth produced a total of 183 Cirruses, many of which are still flying.  The Cirrus, or Open Cirrus as it is also called, was an Open Class (18 Meter wing span) racing sailplane when it was introduced.  The Cirrus paved the way for the more commonly known Standard Cirrus.  The Standard Cirrus is quite distinct in appearance from the Open Cirrus, having a 15 Meter wing span, a "T" tail and a hinged canopy.  For information on the Std Cirrus, see http://www.standardcirrus.org/.

The Classic Division of the VSA, and this site, are dedicated to sharing information which can help owners and pilots preserve and safely fly  these fine machines.

This site has a new webmaster as of March 2010, and efforts are being made to bring this site up to date.  In the meantime, contact the current webmaster at mailto:aerodyne@socal.rr.com
