The original bill of sale dated April 3, 1969 transferred the ship from Schempp-Hirth to a partnership of Glenn Kleinhesselink, Onal N. Harris, and Elvin C. Welch of Palos Verdes Estates, CA. Elvin was apparently a contest pilot, because he wrote the FAA back in March of 1969 to get an N-number ending in "OF", which was his SSA-assigned contest number. He wanted to be sure that he got the N-number in time to have Schempp-Hirth mold the numbers into the surface so as to be flush and provide no additional drag.

On January 15, 1970, Harris sold his share to Frank A. Lewis, also of Palos Verdes Estates, CA.

U.S. Soaring Hall of Fame member Helen R. Dick, 4619 Bermuda Ave., San Diego, CA 92107 bought the ship on May 19, 1973, apparently shortly after the death of Glen Kleinhesselink. Helen took the California Feminine Singleplace record with a flight on July 29, 1974 of 418.18 miles – a record that still stands!

The FAA records have a significant gap in them, and do not contain any reference to John Williams’ becoming a partner with Helen sometime between May of 1973 and April of 1976.

No. 74 was destroyed on April 17, 1976 in a mid-air collision that killed partner/pilot John Williams.
