Cirrus No. 13,  (BGA JJA)
(Originally D8114)

Currently Owned by: Bob McLean, of McLean Aviation

STATUS: Destroyed

LOCATION: The Aerodrome, Rufforth, York, UK

Formerly based at the Dumfries and District Gliding Club, and flown by Kaz Paszki, No. 13 was destroyed in a crash in June, 1999. The accident was reported on the web on "Inside Scotland", q.v.:

Paul Maddocks, aged 35, from Castle Douglas, was travelling at more than 50 miles per hour when his glider crashed. Ambulances rushed to the scene of the incident at the Dumfries and District Gliding Club's base at Falgunzeon, Dalbeattie, on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Maddocks was then taken to hospital with serious leg, back and face injuries. His condition was described as "comfortable" by a spokesman for Dumfries Infirmary yesterday. It is the second serious accident the gliding club has had since the start of the year. But they say their safety record stands comparison with any other glider group around the country. "I don't think anyone will ever really know what happened," said a spokesman for the club this week. "The pilot lost control of it about 60 to 70 feet into the air," he said. "They take off at around 55 miles per hour." The glider was extensively damaged in the crash and investigations are still continuing into the cause. But initially it appears to have been pilot error which caused the plane to hit the ground just moments after it had started to gain height.

Very little is known about this ship's history.  As of May, 2001, the current owner plans to use it as a parts ship in the construction of a single Cirrus from the remains of Nos. 13, 23, and 128 (q.v.)
