Cirrus No. 12, BGA 4218
(Formerly HB-927)

Currently Owned by:  Mike Rossiter

STATUS: In Service

LOCATION Talgarth, near the Black Mountains, and Usk

David Slocombe bought the Cirrus, from Andy Thornhill, in October, 1998. He based the aircraft at Burn Gilding Club in Yorkshire. (Burn is an ex Royal Air Force field and was the home of 578 squadron  who flew heavy bombers in WW2. Burn is also north of the soaring line in England, but we sit in the middle of a newly discovered coalfield so the airfield is at the centre of a triangle formed by three coal-fired power stations....if you can live with the sulphur-dioxide, it's a 365 day a year lift source, but the gliders tend to end up yellow.)  No. 12 had 4,600 hours at that time, from 1500 starts, quite an average to live up to!  The aircraft has a good panel if somewhat dated by modern standards, including an LX1600 averager/speed commander.  At the beginning of 2000, the ship had 4,699 hours total time. January 1st 2000 was one date which just had to be in his logbook, so despite the cold and lifeless air, he took a 6,000 foot tow up to some "fools wave" and then floated gently back via a 73km out and return.

Mike Rossiter bought it in May, 2002, who flies out of Talgarth in the Black Mountains (but familiarized himself with the Cirrus by flying initially at Usk.)
